PERSONALITY: Loren has always been a bit feisty. She’s not vicious or anything, she just loves a good argument. Intelligent and hard-working, she always puts her best foot forward. Her serious, passionate personality has helped her become a respected lobbyist for issues concerning Augmented people. Many people suspect she is augmented but she dodges the issue gracefully when in public. Only her fellow Vervain members, family and a few close friends know for a fact that she can read minds. Telepathy can really put a strain on any relationship. She tries her hardest to keep out of people’s heads for the most part, save the occasional slip when curiosity gets the better of her.
At times Lorie can come across as snobbish and judgmental but these are simply defense mechanisms against becoming to close to people. She has some serious trust issues. Many friendships and relationships have fallen through because of paranoia on the other party’s behalf. But with those few people who trust her enough to believe she stays out of their thoughts her relaxed, playful side shows. She enjoys fine wine, the theater and small gatherings with her friends.
AUGMENTATION: Telepathy, Level Three
1. TELEPATHIC CONDUCTION. The first level of telepathy is merely being able to pick up random thoughts from other people's minds.
It all started her freshman year of college. She had just turned eighteen a few months earlier and she was taking her literature midterm when a curious sensation hit her. She started to feel a tickle in the back of her mind and slowly whispered voices filled her head. They built into a great rumble and she ran from the class.
2. MIND READING. Telepathy's second level allows for control of when a telepath does or does not hear people's thoughts. Therefore s/he is able to tune in and out of other people's minds.
Slowly, she learned how to block the voices out and listen selectively. It was difficult but she found some friends that were also augmented and the companionship helped encourage her to keep practicing.
3. LIMITED TELEPATHIC COMMUNICATION. Level three is not only a telepath reading people's minds, but also sending them short, simple, telepathic messages. In early stages of this level, the telepath must be either physically touching the receiver or within the same vicinity as the receiver.
Mostly from lack of use, it has taken her power nearly six years to advance to sending messages. Loren is starting to get the hang of it but at times a physical connection is necessary for clear communication.
4. ADVANCED TELEPATHIC COMMUNICATION. Level four includes mind reading as well as long distance psychic communication.
FAMILY: Father: Edward Rawles; 63
Mother: Judith Rawles;; 58
Brother: Spencer Rawles;; 27 (augmented)
HISTORY:Loren‘s entire childhood was spent in Feverfew Square. Her father was a lawyer and spoiled her with everything she wanted. Not much was expected of her, especially after her brother was born. Judith was a socialite in the small city, organizing her husband‘s parties and fundraisers. During Lorie’s middle school years, her father became involved in politics. Loren views this time as the simplest part of her life. She was well-prepared to follow her mother‘s footsteps and marry a well-to-do man and live a life of modest luxury. Augmentations never entered her pre-teen mind and it wasn‘t until high school that she gave them the slightest thought.
Throughout her high school career, Lorie met many people that had these powers. A few of her oldest friends turned out to have augmentations as well. It became obvious to her that this was the next big social issue. Her aspirations changed as she got older and her senior year she was voted class president largely due to her campaign to keep testing for augmentations out of the school. At that point there was no “cure“, but she felt it was still a private issue.
Her first year of college, Loren started to hear the thoughts of other people. It came as quite a shock to her to realize that she too had an augmentation. She had thought that all augmentations manifested earlier but the thoughts of her peers told her otherwise. At first she hated her power- everyone‘s deepest secrets popped into her mind and she thought she would go nuts from dreaming everyone‘s dreams but her own at night. Eventually she was able to block the thoughts out, for the most part. She gained enough control to start listening in and searching for certain things. Her favorite people to listen to were other augments. They lived such secretive, exciting lives. It was like having an unlimited supply of soap operas for her viewing pleasure. It also opened her eyes to the need there was for an augmented voice in the public. Especially after the “cure“ was released. Even more so after people starting dying.
She learned about the Vervain Underground by listening in on a few of her classmates. Of course, it led to an awkward first conversation but she was able to gain their acceptance and joined them, pointing them to other augments that were looking for help. She worked with Vervain for a short time before deciding to attack the problem on a bigger playing field. She went to law school and started specializing in augmented cases. Finally they had someone speaking on their behalf. And her voice wasn‘t the only one. Loren was able to bring forth many augmented citizens who were willing to fight against Juniper. Some publicly revealed their abilities. Others denied it or, like herself, never confirmed nor refuted the suspicions that they were gifted.
She’s recently moved back to Primrose Hills after spending the past year in Washington, in an effort to pass a few laws protecting augmented people. They were unsuccessful but the issue was now on the floor. She feels its time to go back to the guys that started it all and get involved with Vervain again. [/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]
